CD 1070 Hemingray [010]: (F-Umbrella) HEMINGRAY (R-Umbrella) Nº 109  SB

The Hemingray Nº109 is known as a "dead-end" insulator, because they were commonly used to tie off at the end of the line. This particular piece is the earliest of the known embossings for this style. We can date this piece prior to 1919 based on the lack of "MADE IN U.S.A." under "HEMINGRAY" and the "Nº109" on the rear umbrella. I stumbled across this "new" embossing at the Long Beach National show in 1996. It stood out from the others due to its plain aqua color. (Aqua seems to be one of the less common colors for this style.) Since then, at least a few others have surfaced. I would consider this the least common of the CD 1070 embossings.
